Apple Hill

November 16, 2009

If you haven’t been yet, it’s not too late!! Get in all the warm, festive, fall-ish fanfare that you can WHILE you can! Go to Apple Hill!! Ah, the fall color on the trees, the smell of apples in the air, the warm family environment, what’s not to love?

Apple Hill is the wonderful little area in the hills off the 50 to the east of Sacramento. It is filled, and I mean filled, with quaint farms and fruit stands along a series of roads.  The best way to see Apple Hill is just to drive along and stop at any little place that looks appealing. Aside from farms and fruitstands, the Hill also boasts wineries, breweries, restaurants, spas, and hotels.

This has become sort of tradition in my family mostly because we love all the apple goodies that are served at each wonderful apple farm along the “apple drive”. Now that I have a kid, the fun is all the more to be had. This place is ideal for children…there are literally hours available to entertain them. Anything from apple picking, hay rides, animal petting zoos, crafts, and much more. Not to mention apple cider, apple pie, apple butter, apple fritters, and apple cobbler. My favorite is still the freshly picked apple right off the tree, so rich and ripe and fresh you can feel the taste of fall in your mouth.

Our favorite places to stop are Abel’s Apple Acres, Barsotti Family Juice Company and Kids Inc.(stop in for their famous Walkin’ Apple Pies….oh my gosh, my mouth is watering just thinking about them). Any of these places have apple picking available. Abel’s is great for kids on the weekend.

We recently went up with our friends Adam and Ashley and their cute one year old Delila. Here are some pictures from our adventure:) Note: this is the perfect place to wear your baby as it is NOT stroller compatible at all!! Pictured below is Kyle with Evangeline in the ERGO Baby. Such a cute little mohawk.
